Drawing Faces Straight On

Notice the use of thick and thin lines. What I can learn from this picture is drawing the nose straight on. This is probably the most difficult part for me when drawing a face straight on. How do I capture the shape of the nose? How do I draw it without making it look flat yet not making it look like a clown nose? In this picture, the soft lines show the under part of the nose where the nostrils are. Also, the soft lines capture the ball shape of the tip of the nose. I'll use this as inspiration when I draw faces.
